Are They Serious?

Frankly, when I found out about RTM's intention to create a channel that rivals CNN to be launched on August 1. While I applaud the station's courage to measure itself against one of the biggest news networks in the world, I think it is always good to be humble and learn.

To think that we had to find out from international news networks about things that happened at home, I believe it is better that we take small steps and try to expand the local coverage.

Better than CNN?

Are they serious?

It's Time To Move On

Those who know me knows I am a news junky - since I left the newspaper publisher in late 1999, I became a news observer. When those planes crashed into the World Trade Centres in New York, I lost sleep, because I couldn't leave the television alone. Knowing what's happening in the world has been something I take pride in.

I think that's why I went into producing documentaries, to find out more about a subject matter, and then tell a story about it, presented in a clear and concise manner.

When we witnessed the unjusts happening right before our own eyes, the first thing that comes into my mind is "record the damn thing down"! and tell others.

Spread The Word.

***

The recent bombings of London and Egypt marked a new beginning; a new wave of "terror" that, according to the Bush and Blair Universe, will threaten the way of life of the West.

Well, what about us? the people Southeast of the Epicentre?

I think this is the perfect time for us to move on: for those of us who take it upon ourselves to spread the word about truth, the way we see it, this is the time to pick up a pen, load a DV tape, and tell our story.

This is the time to make a difference, simply because we are not in the epicentre, we'll be able to look at facts clearly. An old Chinese adage says that those who are deeply entrenched are riddled.

So, what are we waiting for?

Santa?

or Christmas?

Video Edit Fest

Next few days will be hell for all of us... I will be finalising two video edits and also write the necessary narration for the pitch video. load of work and also load of rendering time.

It took us a while to finally get all the pieces together and also to make the visual look better, I was doing my "Learn-a-software-in-24-hour" routine again.

So, this time, it was Apple Shake 3.5.

And Adobe After Effects 6.0.

Never wanted to learn these two applications because I don't like their interface; one looks too UNIX-ish and the other, too Windows... but I had to do what I have to do.

So, as I am writing this, my souped-up Apple Power Macintosh Cube is chugging away, rendering the multi-layered multi-effected video. The poor guy hasn't rested for almost 3 days. Though I know I have to let it go and upgrade to a G5 very very soon (it won't run Final Cut Pro 5), it will always be an important machine to me, in my life.

Destiny vs Sour Grapes

I think it is my destiny not to set foot on the Indian sub continent; so it's not a loss for me when I realised I did not win the NGC/Sony mumbai trip. And to think that they probably chose the winner by looks makes me feel even better.

I am not a fan of beauty contest.

Anyway, congrats to the Hong Kong lady who will be spending her time in Mumbai.

Speaking of which, 8TV just screened a neve-seen-before 6 Million Dollar Man, it was like traveling back in time, I didn't even go to the toilet during commercial break, I was afraid I might miss anything.

So I have just become a TV addict.

But it's really not my fault, right?

Head Over Heels

We managed to interview a travel agent who makes arrangements for people to travel into countries where they might not be "welcomed". At 1 am in the morning.

The interview was initially arranged to be recorded on Saturday evening, but nothing happened as planned in the last few months, and neither did this.

Nevertheless, we managed to acquire a good 40 minutes of his story. A very interesting one if you get to hear his uncensored version; his wife was there to make sure he doesn't say anything incriminating.

Well, HUE was there to make sure I didn't miss anything. So, I guess we were being extra careful.

Anyway, we watched a very funny movie today, entitled "Head Over Heels", a romantic comedy that revolves around 4 super models, an art restorer and an FBI agent.

These romantic flicks are perfect for people like us who are experiencing a life-changing phase where we need to suspend reality and simply stop our brains from working for an hour or two.

The movie delivers.

Go catch the movie if you can, the casts are convincing, though the story is not Lord of the Rings, nor it pretends to be, but if you are looking for a good laugh, this movie is for you.

How can someone make such a bad movie? Hong Kong filmmakers really need to rethink their strategies when making a movie based on some other people's work.

They have no respect at all! and to think that there are so many musicians on the cast, the film scoring would be better. But the result is insulting.

They should have just used the original soundtracks from the anime.

GAWD!

My 90 minute of fame

I was invited by Vivian to appear on her radio show on Monday (July 18, 2005). She wanted to talk a bout music and what I have been doing with my life in the last 17/18 years.

The show went on without a hitch, except being stopped at the guardhouse, I managed to convince the guards that I don't look like a terrorist and certainly no backpack with suspiciously looking detonator hanging out of my car window, I was in the studio 15 minutes late.

Anyway, Vivian and I ended up talking about friends and my work in the last decade. While we lament our losses and ill-doings, we find strength to move on.

Such, is life.
